Translation fees can vary from one part of the country to another, depending on need. Spanish is so widely spoken now yet because of this, the amount of English-Spanish translators is also high. However, the level of fluency of a translator is what will make them or break them. If you are 100% fluent in both languages, including idiomatic/colloquial expressions, and, if you have perfect grammar and spelling skills in both, you can make up to 25 cents/word. If you hang your own shingle, it will take time and a lot of work to get yourself known but once you do one really good job, your reputation will precede you and you’ll build up your own clientele. I would suggest that you contact your local translation service companies and offer your services on a trial basis. It gives you good practice and experience and although the pay won’t be much (expect 5-10 cents/word), it gives you a start on your translator resumé. Also, working with an established company will gain you "certification" which will be another point in your favor.

or a spanish dictionary would work just as well

The only one I know of is Ultralingua, who publishes translators between virtually any language, however, it is also ridiculously expensive…right now, the Spanish/English one is going for $19.99.

Does anyone know of a good english/spanish translator?

I need the translator for a project. It needs to be proper spanish. Mostly only for a few words, but i would like to type a sentence like "The lion waits on it’s prey in the grass." I am doing a project on lions and i have to come up with a one minute speech. I left my book and dictionary in my locker so the computer is the only source of help that I have. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I’ve used Google’s translator: http://www.google.com/webmasters/igoogle/translate.html

One where you can type in a sentence and translate it, because I’m trying to translate some sentences in my textbook, and its hard to understand the story when I don’t know what some phrases mean.
Please post the link(s) Thanks!
Well I know they come out sounding like a robot and its not the exact way but its better than nothing…so anything would help.

They all suck. Please, don’t trust them.

a question about translating english words into Spanish on the Google translator?

November 20, 2009 - 6:14 pm 2 Comments

Sorry if what I say doesn’t make sense, but lets say that you type in the sentence "Are you afraid, little sister?" in English

the Spanish translation is "¿Tienes miedo, hermanita?"

is this what a Spanish speaker would say in real life? Or does it not make sense? Is it just translating each word individually?

also, if you’re writing a story and you want your character to say something in Spanish, when they usually speak English, would it be okay to use the Google translator to get the Spanish sentences?

In this particular case, it does make sense and some people would actually say that. But most of the time online translators are unreliable as they translate things literally, word for word, and many times don’t even make sense. So I would not trust any online translators, and many people avoid them.

Besides, it’s from Yahoo it’s pretty good :)

psst. I used it for my French homework lol. The teacher said she’s really good at looking for translated things. She never found out.

How do you reset the password to the Franklin TES-120 English & Spanish translator?

November 11, 2009 - 1:21 pm 1 Comment

I have a franklin TES-120 translator and I was wondering how to reset the password, because I forgot what it was, if I even put one on there.

Also, could you let me know what the default password is please?

Best answer to person that posts working solution first.

Thanks in advance.

There isn’t a default password, as far as I know.. to reset it, all you should need to do is press the soft "RESET" button on the back with a paperclip or something while you press the on/off key..
