What is the best Latin translator online?

February 16, 2010 - 3:17 am 2 Comments

I really like the Google translator, but it doesn’t do Latin. Does anyone know an online translator that does Latin? The fancier the better.

Online translators just can’t handle Latin, evidently because of all the inflectional endings. Your best bet would be to post your specific questions here, where there are several good Latinists to help.

I need a good online translator, the google one sucks the bing what sucks and the yahoo one sucks, they dont get even close to translating it right, i need a spanish to english and a english to spanish one.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I would NEVER even call those online things "translators" because NONE of them are accurate! Please do all your translations offline.

Do you know of a good online English to Portuguese translator?

I am communicating with a girl who is from Brazil, and she is speaking in English, but it’s very bad English, so I’m assuming she is using a bad online translator, possibly Google’s. Do you know of a good English to Portuguese translator that is almost 100% accurate? That way I can speak to her in Portuguese, and it will be easier for us to understand each other.

Hi Alex, I am Brazilian and translater and I need to tell you. Any online translator can’t make the work a translator person. They don’t have feelings. They are dictionaries. I heard it at college and I needed to agree about. For example if you tell a Brazilian I can get on right now in Portuguese it would sound very strange. We get into the internet or we use the computer. Every online translator would translate exactly what you said. Once I tried to translate "You can watch on YouTube" to Italian and the translator said to the Italian You can there is a clock inside of a tube. Conclusion, the Italian didn’t understand what watch/clock I was talking about. But I know a good one it is www.dictionary.com Any serious problem about comprehension just e-mail me. Good luck with your friend :-)

Where can I find a free online translator for pinyin to chinese or pinyin to english?

(A translator for pinyin to english is preferred.) I would like a translator that translates whole phrases, not just a dictionary that translates individual words or characters. Thank you!

zhongwen.com is pretty good

Is there a reliable online translator from English to Spanish for business correspondence?

January 23, 2010 - 11:58 am 3 Comments

I need to write a letter to a potential client, but he speaks Spanish much better than English. I’m afraid that may be why he didn’t purchase what I’m offering to begin with- he may not have understood everything I was offering. I have Spanish materials to send him, but I really want to write a letter to go with it. I’m afraid of using an online translator for fear that it will be choppy and come out badly. Any advice?

Just use an offline translation service or a good dictionary, like you said, ALL the online "translators" (I wouldn’t even call them translators!) are utter RUBBISH.

where can i find an online greek/latin translator?

January 18, 2010 - 12:31 pm 2 Comments

I need an online translator for some projects at school.

If it’s for school, forget it. There is no such thing as a free Latin/Greek translator. There are too many things in Latin and Greek where you have to know things like the sex of the subject, how many there are, stuff like that that usually just doesn’t matter in English. If it’s just words you’re trying to translate, then I suggest just dictionary.com It’ll show you what Latin or Greek word something comes from (though remember, most of English is actually derived from German).

Anyone knows of an online translator which translates Russian to English but not in the Cyrillic Alphabet?

January 14, 2010 - 8:50 pm 3 Comments

I would like to know of a free online translation program to translate some phrases from English to Russian (Not cyrillic, but latin Alphabet). Thanks!

you can translate from English to Russian here http://www.perevodslov.ru/onlinep.html

But mark "транслит" and Russian text will be written with latin alphabet. Without "транслит" you’ll see cyrillic alphabet.
