I have some relatives in Germany who I am wanting to email to.
Is there anyone who can help me get the emails translated please?

you will have too many mistakes with an on-line translator, simply because they don’t take into account the nuances of using different words. Contact one of those nice people who gave you their email address. Native speakers are always the best, not only for translating but for teaching how to pronounce properly.

I am good at German, but need to look up a few sentences for a test I am having to take. Unfortunately, the translators I have found so far just dribble out rubbish. As this is an important test, I have taken the liberty to put in a few random sentences in English which I know how they should translate, grammar and all, but what comes out the other end is nonsense. It’s not even remotely similiar. Some even tried to be clever by using certain imperfect text rules, but they put them in the completely wrong places!

Anyway, I am in desperate need of a good, if not brilliant, online translator. So, if you know any, please leave an answer.

Please don’t just answer with the first translator you find on Google, because I’ve waded through the search results, none of which are any good.

Only reply if you know a good one.

I would really appreciate if someone who knows German could help me with translating this text to German. Online translators translate really literally and there’s no any correct grammar there. Die Firma, die den Auftrag für die Rekonstruktion hatte, stellte Experten für die Demolierung an. Innerhalb von nur einer Stunde war außer einem einfachen Stück Feld nichts mehr vom Tempel übrig. Die berühmtesten Architekten der Welt arbeiteten am Tempel. Bevor der Bergbau stattfand, erstellten sie Pläne, die sie benutzten, als sie mit dem Tempelaufbau begannen.

Heavenlea is almost correct, but "top of the mountain" = Bergspitze..

so:

Ich klettere unterhalb der Berspitze. (This is idiomatic tho, means the same you wanted to say and sounds very natural.)

If you are going to work as a freelance, then you should not expect to earn very much at all. The rates have remained static over the past ten years and there is a great reluctance to pay more because of the Internet and the fact that people in third world countries are offering their services very cheaply (although not generally to the same standard). There is constant pressure to compete with others over rates and at the same time pressure from translators’ organisations to support the profession by insisting on decent rates. Normally one charges so much per thousand words. It is not simply a matter of how many words you can rattle through in a day: you have to look things up, check them and read through your work before dispatching it. Sometimes your work will be edited and returned to you for re-checking and you’ll have to drop everything you’re doing to look it through. You have all sorts of overheads and ideally you should be paying for professional indemnity insurance just in case things go horribly wrong, over and above the costs of equipment, dictionaries and keeping warm (or cool, depending on the climate!) The amount you clear after tax by working day and night compares unfavourably with most professions.
On the other hand, if you are able to land a job in an international organisation (for which the competition is exceedingly fierce), you’ll earn a large salary, sometimes tax free, with all kinds of perks and a fantastic pension.
