How accurate is Google Translator when translating English to French or Spanish?

How accurate would you say Google Translator is when translating English to French, or English to Spanish? I’d love answers from fluent French and Spanish speakers, cheers!

Translators have no chance whatsoever of getting it right if the original is not 100% grammatically correct and correctly spelt. Even then, translators do not understand idioms or context. For example, if you ask for the translation for "hydraulic ram" it is just as likely to give a translation meaning "aquatic male sheep"; if you type in an expression such as "I feel like death warmed up", it will probably give you an expression meaning "I want to die in a fire".

Conversely, I saw the Spanish expression "No sé nada de inglés" (I know nothing about English) emerge as "He does not swim himself of groins" – because the original writer had not put in the written accents.

The point is that to be sure that a translator is giving you a correct translation you have to be totally conversant with both languages so that you can check the results – all of which seems to rather defeat the object of the exercise….

As you can tell from above…I’m a liar. -cry- Yeah anyhow, how do you say those in French?
It’s actually my friends playing around. She likes to pick on me in that way. If I really thought she was conceded, I’d probably tell her in English. And it’s over anyway, all fun and games.

Yep I notice that you were a liar. Anyway considering the time it takes you to translate I’m sure they already figured out that you were lying! Why do use such gross language for?

i watch the Simpson’s everyday and often watch it with my brothers. On thursday nights i watch skins because i think it is funny. Sometimes i watch a soap opera called hollyoaks. Sometimes i watch shameless but only if im not too tired.

je regarde "les Simpson" tous les jours et je le regarde souvent avec mon frère. Le jeudi soir, je regarde "Skins" parce que je pense que c’est drôle / amusant. Parfois je regarde un feuilleton à l’eau de rose qui s’appelle "hollyoaks". Parfois je regarde "shameless" mais uniquement / seulement si je suis trop fatigué (for a boy) / fatiguée (for a girl)

I’m French, so without a translator : translators are rubbish !

my favorite type of music is rock because it is easy to dance to. my favorite band are enter shikari. i like them because they make very good music. i dont like pop because i find it annoying and boring. i also dont like rap because its too repetitive.

Is it: Les parcs a été beaux [ even though ] il a été très froid?
Also would we ate a lot of fast-food be: Nous avons beaucoup mangé les fast-food? Or would it be des fast-food?

Les parcs étaient beaux bien qu’il ait fait très froid.

"ait fait" is a subjonctive form of the verb "faire". You have to use this tense if you want to use "bien que" (= even though). If you don’t feel like using the subjonctive you can say : "Les parcs étaient très beaux malgré le froid" ("The parcs were beautiful despite the cold"), a less litteral translation…

"Nous avons mangé beaucoup de fast-food"

French Canadian online translator?

I have a friend from Canada whose primary language is french (canadian) which is slightly different From French (France) dialect…Does anyone know of an English to French translator online that uses the Canadian Dialect???

You’ll find no such thing as a Canadian French online translator unfortunately. Standard (written) Canadian French is just like European French with a few exceptions in vocabulary and is not a dialect in itself.

The slang words/forms we use do not constitute another language in itself and therefore will not be found in a common dictionary and if so, then a regular French online translator will be able to translate them.

You can, however, find Canadian French (or Quebec French) ”dictionaries” either online or in bookstores.
