Who is the best english translator for the Quran?

November 14, 2009 - 3:37 pm 5 Comments

I am interested in reading the Quran but have no knowledge of Arabic. Could you please tell me what translation does the most justice do its poetry?

I’ve always liked A.J. Arberry’s "The Koran Interpreted" the best.

Ali’s "The Holy Qu’ran" has a better index, though.

What is the best online Russian-English translator?

November 11, 2009 - 1:21 pm 4 Comments

I use translit.ru and translate.ru which are pretty good, but the interface is a little clunky and sometimes translate.ru just doesn’t respond or is really slow. Any other good, reliable translation sites out there for Russian-English? Thanks.

here you go the best i absolutely love this one

most accurate Japanese to English translator?

November 6, 2009 - 12:19 am 1 Comment

I’m looking for an online translator for Japanese to English, one thats most accurate THANKS!

There is no "most accurate" online translation machine. They’re all inaccurate. If you want something translated, you need to involve real human beings.

anyone know where i can find a greek to english translator?

November 3, 2009 - 8:51 am 3 Comments

okay, I need a greek-to-english translator, but I need one with these EXACT specifications:

~must be online
~must be free
~translates from SIMPLIFIED (read, with english alphabet characters) greek to english

I cannot find anything online like this! I have found some similar ones, but they all need the actual greek alphabet characters. The text I need translated is in simplified Greek.

any directions to be pointed in or advice on where to look would be much appreciated!

I could help you (native Greek speaker and citizen).
And "greeklish" is NOT simplified Greek (sorry, I am sensitive to it).

Does anyone know where i can find a decent english – armenian translator ?

October 29, 2009 - 5:12 pm 2 Comments

does any1 know where i can find a english – armenian translator ? all the most comonly used translators (google translate and altavista babel fish) dont have the armenian lanugage there ,. any help would be appreciated :) .

No "automatic" online translator in any language is any good. Use a dictionary if you know the language fairly well, or get a human translator if you don’t. You can post questions here, but you are more likely to get a decent answer if you post them on the kudoz section of Proz.com, where professional translators hang out. There will be a limit of ten words per question though.

What dictionaries and resources are necessary for a Portuguese/English translator?

October 27, 2009 - 4:23 pm 5 Comments

Is there a "best" Portuguese/English English/Portuguese dictionary? What do you consider to be the minimum necessary?

I’m not sure which one is the best, but I can tell you, most of the online ones are junk. It translates, but it’s hard to understand. Good luck

P.S. I’m looking for a great Spanish/English dictionary, and I’ve got an okay one, but I’d like a good one. Ya know?
