Google translate is OK but I often find that words are sometimes messed up and it is not all that accurate especially for more difficult languages. Instead, I started using the one found here http://www.translatenation.com/French.html which is also free. I finds it does a very good job and also comes with extra features I like.
Looking for the best online TRANSLATOR. Specifically English to Vietnamese, and vice versa.
Any thoughts?
My thought is that there are no GOOD Viet/English translators on line. The grammar differences in the two languages ensure that you will usually get junk if you attempt more than a one word translation. For an example, I just tried "I want to go home" which is "Toi muon ve nha" in Viet. Google Translate worked but vdict.com didn’t.
I just went back and tried a few longer sentences and Google did a good job! They must have been making improvements lately.
For single words and short sentences Google works better than vdict.com, They also allow you to hear the pronunciation.The good thing about vdict is that they have a virtual Viet keyboard for Viet/English translation.
I am looking for the best online free translator . I need to get some help on a short french Text to be translated into English . What do you recommend ?
My advice: don’t go for the online translation because they only do direct translation. they do not cater to the conceptual, textual and cultural meaning of certain words/ phrases/ sentences. find a native speaker, they know their own language better (synchronize chat is acceptable) Good luck

I understand that online translators are never accurate, but sometimes I just need a general feel of what’s being said. Google can translate individual words or small little phrases for me, but with Korean it turns out a big jumble.
Does anyone know why?
It’s not just Korean.
Turkish and Japanese have the same problem.
It’s probably because of the structure of those languages.
First off, the languages I mentioned above are all SOV (Subject-Object-Verb) languages meaning all the verbs generally come at the end. Besides that, they are highly agglutinative.

Kacche= vengeful attitude… kattinananannte= have in me katthi=sword or knife…. gucchukundanthe= stab (you)… raccha gottavante= making a fuss or hullaballoo ..champakunda vundananthe= won’t stop myself killing you

I’ve found Google Translate and similar, e.g. Babelfish, work well on some languages but other languages come out as English "but not as we know it Jim" (Spock). Are online translators really that bad or is it a case of garbage in garbage out or that they can’t handle idiomatic language?
Success rate is close to zero. I do not use them anymore.

No offense but i would avoid repeating myself if i were u ("I hope you are having a wonderful time in France", "Hope you are having a great time"), it is something we avoid doing in French (much more than in English), repeating the same sentences is viewed as bad writing.
I am still hunting for a high-paid position as a top professional/senior translator (English/French and French/English) within an international mining corporations, banks, instititions, that urgently need such services. Do you know some in Africa that are looking for translators (French/English and English/French)???
