I have to do a summer reading assignment and I need a great translation of Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince so I can thoroughly comprehend the book and the concepts. I’ve been doing some research on the many different versions, and a lot of the reviews bash the translation of Mansfield and praise Wootton. I just would like preferences, good/bad experiences, or any good specific versions that colleges have required so I can read the best possible version.

I am planning a Europe Trip next year for about 5 weeks. I will be in Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, and Croatia. So… I would like a translator that catches all of those. I know there are a lot of 6 language translators out there and Portuguese, so I may be ok having that taken out.
I was thinking of getting a talking one, but don’t want to spend over $50. Got any favorites or recommendations?
I would recommend you not to left out Portuguese. Just make sure you get one with Portugal’s Portuguese. Picture this: if you are talking to someone Portuguese with a Brazilian accent and your Brazilian accent is not good, we’ll (I’m Portuguese) probably won’t be able to understand you… Same for Spanish, make sure it is Spain’s Spanish.

How accurate would you say Google Translator is when translating English to French, or English to Spanish? I’d love answers from fluent French and Spanish speakers, cheers!
Translators have no chance whatsoever of getting it right if the original is not 100% grammatically correct and correctly spelt. Even then, translators do not understand idioms or context. For example, if you ask for the translation for "hydraulic ram" it is just as likely to give a translation meaning "aquatic male sheep"; if you type in an expression such as "I feel like death warmed up", it will probably give you an expression meaning "I want to die in a fire".
Conversely, I saw the Spanish expression "No sé nada de inglés" (I know nothing about English) emerge as "He does not swim himself of groins" – because the original writer had not put in the written accents.
The point is that to be sure that a translator is giving you a correct translation you have to be totally conversant with both languages so that you can check the results – all of which seems to rather defeat the object of the exercise….
I’m trying to translate certain english words to latin and most of the translators I’ve come across are absolute rubbish. Does anyone know the best translator for english to latin words?
There are many good English-to-Latin translators online, and they’re all human! For individual words, a translation site may be satisfactory, but even then I’d recommend using an online Latin-English dictionary (if you don’t have access to a real one, in hard copy). For a sentence or even a phrase, however, if you haven’t studied Latin yourself, you should definitely post your passage on this site, where several good Latinists are likely to see it and respond.
I have tried babelfish. It is next to useless. I am just looking for a simple drop-down translator – I know there are many to choose from, I also know they can be loaded with malware, so I really would appreciate any suggestions 
I agree with David. There is no such thing as a trustworthy language translator. A person should only use one of those if they already have some familiarity with the language and they can recognise when something is wrong! Most people who use them here and put up the results don’t realise how far out they are.

It’s actually my friends playing around. She likes to pick on me in that way. If I really thought she was conceded, I’d probably tell her in English. And it’s over anyway, all fun and games.
