Translators and Linguists

i watch the Simpson’s everyday and often watch it with my brothers. On thursday nights i watch skins because i think it is funny. Sometimes i watch a soap opera called hollyoaks. Sometimes i watch shameless but only if im not too tired.

Parfois je regarde un feuilleton à l’eau de rose qui s’appelle "hollyoaks". Parfois je regarde "shameless" mais uniquement / seulement si je suis trop fatigué (for a boy) / fatiguée (for a girl)

I’m French, so without a translator : translators are rubbish !

yes sure, "trouve" is better than "pense" in this context.

Apparently a lot of them don’t work, because they translate it word for word, and don’t take in grammar to account. I need one to help for my Spanish Coursework, are they any that people know and trust?

I really have found Google Translator to be the best. It is hard to always get a 100% perfect translation from a machine, but it seems to do the best.

As you get better at Spanish you will be able to see the mistakes and correct them yourself. it does get easier!

my favorite type of music is rock because it is easy to dance to. my favorite band are enter shikari. i like them because they make very good music. i dont like pop because i find it annoying and boring. i also dont like rap because its too repetitive.

After correcting spelling and grammar :

"Mon type de musique préféré c’est la musique rock, car c’est facile à danser. Mon groupe de musique préféré est Enter Shikari. Je les aime parce qu’ils font de la musique excellente. Je n’aime pas la musique pop parce que je la considère gênante et ennuyeuse. Aussi, je n’aime pas la musique rap parce que c’est trop répétitive."

Are there any professional unions? Are any licenses required?

Graham H is correct. The Institute of Linguists cornered the market a few years ago by reaching an agreement that only interpreters who had passed its exams could enter the public service interpreting market. However, you asked not about interpreters, but translators. There are several universities offering courses in translation (and interpreting) and most people find that a qualification from one of these bodies is more than acceptable when seeking to appoint a translator. I wanted to translate something from English to Japanese (simplified) but I can’t seem to find a decent online translator. Any ideas?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but NONE of the online "translators" work. They are so rubbish, inaccurate and so bad that nobody should ever call them "translators"!! Please do your translation work offline.

Why google translator not able to translate arabic in english or in any other language ?
It says that Type phonetically. but how can right it phonetically, though im just copying the arabic text from google translator but it shows this message.

Because the Arabic language is NOT based on the roman alphabet that we know as A, B, C, D, E, F, …..and on and on. There are a whole set of other characters. See here for a visual: http://www.foreverhh.com/images/islamic/arabicAlphabet1.gif

So even though these letters TRANSLATE to sound like A, B, C, D, etc. etc. they obviously do not LOOK like that—and therefore, you cannot type them in like that. And for that reason, because Google Translates relies on the A, B, C, D, etc. characters, cannot directly translate. …It says "type phonetically", cuz it takes in the sounds of the letters you type, and tries to translate those. -Which is actually accurate in a sense. So if you type out in the roman alphabet, what a word in arabic sounds like, google translate accordingly. ….Unfortunately, you’d really have to be a native speaker in order to understand if it’s being translated correctly (as a lot of words SOUND alike), and ironically, if you were a native speaker, you wouldn’t need google translate in the first place.

As a native arabic speaker, I do have to hand it to google.They really do a good job compared to most other sites. But again, you would need someone who knows a little something about the language in the first place, to discern it.

Anyhoo, that’s why it says "type phonetically", cuz ur keyboard is not equipped to type in the arabic letters. ….If you want to know something specifically, email me. I’m not a pro, but I’ll try my best to help.

I am trying to find a free translator and so that when I also receive a message in another language I can translate it into English.
