My family consists of my father and mother, one sister and a dog.
My father
My father is a full Professor of Mathematics at the University of St Thomas. He received his Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles.
My mother
My mother worked at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota.
My sister
My sister Jessica is in seventh grade at Highview Middle School. She is twelve and one half. She plays the piano and the violin.
Me
I am Steven and I am fourteen and one half. I have been playing the violin since fourth grade.
My dog
Our dog, Hazel, is from a shelter in St. Cloud. She about 2 ½ years old.

Hi, I’m looking for a good German to English translator software with voice. I have this great Portuguese to English translator that speaks words/phrases in both idioms and it’s really good to learn proper pronunciation, but unfortunately there isn’t a German to English version. An online translator would be OK too (if it speaks the words like thefreedictionary.com does). Thanks!

This website is not like your usual online translator. It translates common phrases, expressions and even idioms CORRECTLY. Not only that, but it will give you all possible results to a query, meaning translations in all possible contexts and phrases used with the word you entered. If you can’t find a translation to your word, the site will show you a link to a forum where members can give their own suggestions for translations. This is useful especially if you want to translate a highly technical word.

Plus, there’s an option to listen to the pronunciation of the translated words if you’re a member, which, I think, is what you’re looking for. =)

Let’s say I like an interesting article in a French newspaper so much, I decide to translate it into English and post it in my online blog so as to share it with other readers.
Do I infringe the copyright law this way? If I quote the original source alongside the translated version, will this sidestep the law?

P/S It’s only a scenario. I haven’t attempted anything like that.
Can I intepret and distil the content into a summary instead? The whole idea of translation is to reach out to readers who can’t understand the original language.

Quoting the original source will make it more likely someone will catch you with a search engine. Translations are covered by copyright law, so reposting is a violation. The way around it is to post a little "teaser" with the most interesting parts, then link to the original article. If you want to translate the whole article, though, you have to ask permission.

Reposting anything, translation or not, is a violation of copyright.

I’m mexican and I speak both English and Spanish. I spend my time at YA! to tranlslate as many texts as I can from En-Sp Sp-En. I do it because i like it, so I think it is a good place to start.

Depending on your city, you can ask for job (volunteer job) in different places. Look for companies who need translations, and tell them you can do them for free.

They could email them to you, so you would translate it in your computer and send the translation back.

WordReference.com is very good… it’s not a translation site but rather a dictionary. But it has forums where real Spanish speakers can translate your text and includes all idiomatic pharses in its dictionary.

Babelfish and Freetranslation sometimes give you inaccurate (aka too literal) translations

Is there a "best" Portuguese/English English/Portuguese dictionary? What do you consider to be the minimum necessary?

I’m not sure which one is the best, but I can tell you, most of the online ones are junk. It translates, but it’s hard to understand. Good luck

The people who know the answer to this are not going to risk diminishing their freelance opportunities by introducing a rival on the scene! You must do your own research, I’m afraid. Look for translation agencies which have a well organised website and high standards. Be prepared to do a test translation — this is usually the sign of an agency setting high standards. It is also a good sign if they state how and when translators are paid. Think hard about your own working hours and about the time differences between you and the countries you target. You might find yourself in demand if you are known to be starting your day nice and fresh while local translators in the part of the world you are targeting are retiring for the night and therefore you can handle jobs needed for first thing the following day. What you don’t want to risk is having people phoning you from different parts of the world in the middle of the night or at some unbearably early hour of morning!
