I am a German-English Translator. Pls let me know where I can get a Training in Trados-CAT tool ?

October 29, 2009 - 5:13 pm 1 Comment

I live in Bangalore, India. CAT stands for Computer Aided Tool.

Try these places out (at least for information) and see what you think. Most people I know (including myself) have trained via internet/directly from company. Also, if you haven’t trained in Deja Vu yet, that might be something to look into first as it is much more user-friendly. Good luck.

I would like not only to translate English to Hebrew (into the Hebrew script) but would also like the transliteration of each word I enter. And, if possible, I would like to be able to translate Hebrew script into English as well. Do you know of any FREE translation web services for this?

Try those sites:

I’m not trying to find out where to buy a translator I’m looking for information on which one to buy from someone who has one. Thanks

Electronic translators are a lot better than they used to be. If you’re interested in buying a good one, check out the ones reviewed on this page:

Does anyone know where i can find a decent english – armenian translator ?

October 29, 2009 - 5:12 pm 2 Comments

does any1 know where i can find a english – armenian translator ? all the most comonly used translators (google translate and altavista babel fish) dont have the armenian lanugage there ,. any help would be appreciated :) .

No "automatic" online translator in any language is any good. Use a dictionary if you know the language fairly well, or get a human translator if you don’t. You can post questions here, but you are more likely to get a decent answer if you post them on the kudoz section of Proz.com, where professional translators hang out. There will be a limit of ten words per question though.

Does anyone know if studying to become a French to English translator is a wise idea?

I live in Montreal, Quebec.

I’m wondering what the demand is like/how rewarding translation is etc.

Thank you!

Quite good, as long as you can translate "J’aime tes fesses".

How high is the demand for translators in Los Angeles?

October 29, 2009 - 5:12 pm 2 Comments

I want to become a Spanish-English translator, & I heard there is high demand. Is that true? Can you refer me to some websites of companies or freelance opportunities?

I would imagine the demand is quite high. You may inquire with either the city, or county of Los Angeles.

Or you may refer to a myriad of immigrant services, like this one:

how can my company start working as provider of translation and interpretation?

-how can my company start working as provider of translation and interpretation?
I have a registered company by the company house; my wife has a degree in languages from university of Algarve in Portugal. How can we start providing services for local authorities? How are payments made? How can we get certification stamp/notary stamp, de we need a solicitor?

If you are in the UK, contact your local business advice centre. If you are not sure who this is, there should be a listing in the phone directory.

Alternately, ask at your bank, because the business manager at your local branch will know about all the advice that is available free.

Start by searching for "small business advice" or "business start up advice".

Businesslink are one UK source run by the Government:

It’s all common sense stuff really.

Where can I find a translator for malaysian online?

October 29, 2009 - 5:12 pm 3 Comments

Hi im looking for an online translator like babelfish but for malaysian… it has to be a free one though, can anyone help me??

I believe you mean Bahasa Melayu, otherwise known as Malay, the official language in Malaysia. As Jamestl pointed out, there are a variety of languages spoken in Malaysia itself, reflecting its ethnic background.

Online translators for Bahasa Melayu are less common, online dictionaries are more easily available.

Taken from http://www.travelportal.info/asia/malaysia/bahasa-melayu-language :

SILFIDE Malay English French Dictionary at http://www-clips.imag.fr/geta/services/dicoweb/dicoweb_en.html (the 3 different languages are colour coded in the entries)

Majstro – Online Dictionary at http://www.majstro.com/Web/Majstro/dict.php (you can only translate single Malay words though, not phrases).
