I alraedy know of a few that give just the word for word translation but are they any that actually can put the words in a sentence in the right order with correct ending on different things?? thanks so much!! ( : ( :

Babelfish is immense. http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com/babelfish/tr

Word-reference.com is also great, but its more of a dictionary. It has conjugation tools that are fantastic though – works out all the verbs for you! x

Can a marine fresh out of boot camp attend The DLI-FLC to become an Arabic Translator?

September 27, 2009 - 5:06 pm 3 Comments

I am not a marine but I was considering joining and I was wondering how I would go about getting into the DLI-FLC and becoming a translator. Any answers would be good, thanks.

During the enlistment process you’ll take the DLI test that shows your aptitude for learning languages. If you score well enough you will be accepted to their program pending your successful completion of USMC Boot Camp (13 weeks) and Marine Combat Training (3 weeks). From there you’ll get orders to language school.

Best of luck to you!

Where can I find a good language translator online?

September 27, 2009 - 5:06 pm 5 Comments

I’m not using Google because I’m Italian and I know ‘fuck you’ is ‘fungool’ and it keeps saying ‘vafucluo’ of something like that. But that how I test it. So I need a language translator *FREE* online.

Athene Noctua hit the nail on the head. I’ll give you a good German example. One of the German pop artists I listen to is Juliane Werding, whose name Babelfish’s translation utility would render literally as "Juliane who thing".

One of Werding’s songs is "Sie weiß, was sie will". This title alone presents ambiguities that an online translation utility can’t resolve correctly. "Sie" can mean "you" in the formal address, "she", "it" (referring to a feminine noun) or "they", and "weiß" can mean either "white" or "knows". Properly translated, the title means "she knows what she wants", but Babelfish might render it in one of several ways, such as "she white, what wants it".

what is the best french translator?

September 27, 2009 - 5:06 pm 2 Comments

i hate those translators that translate a sentence in french and the sentences don’t make any sense. i also hate when the translator doesn’t know all the words and you can’t find the meaning of the word your ooking for. so i was just wondering which the best french translator is.

all of them are ok for words. and all of them are terrible for whole sentences because they translate word for word and it does not work that way. Sorry i can’t be of any more help, but i would mislead you if i told you otherwise!

Why is it that web page translators bypass web browser filters?

September 27, 2009 - 5:06 pm 1 Comment

We have a CIPA filter at my school. I discovered I could visit blocked sites by putting them through online web page translators such as babel fish.

However, these translators only convert text. Things such as games do not load.

I am trying to figure out what makes the web page translators bypass the filter so I myself can bypass the filter to play games.

Does anyone know what makes it bypass it?

The filter is using nothing more than URL blacklists.

www.myspace.com is blocked, but www.translator.com/url=www.myspace.com is allowed.

TRANSLATION!!!?!???!?
